Jason Bay

3-Boston Red Sox: RF-J.D. Drew, CF-Jacoby Ellsbury, LF-Jason Bay

This group has excellent balance. All three are fast and cover ground well at their respective positions, and they are astute baserunners as well. Drew's injury history is a slight concern, but when he's out there he's smooth, athletic, and immensely talented. He really seemed to settle in during his second year in Boston.

has a .365 batting average, five home runs and 13 RBI in 15 games since joining the Yankees.  Jason Bay is hitting .333 with eight RBI and 11 runs scored in nine games with the Red Sox, and Manny has been tearing it up in Los Angeles, hitting .475 with four homers and 13 RBI in 10 games in Dodger blue.  On the other hand, Damaso Marte is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA for the Yankees, and Kyle Farnsworth has an 8.31 ERA and has given up three homers in 4.1 innings for the Tigers.  Livan Hernandez gave up nine runs in 2.2 innings for Colorado on Sunday, after the Rockies acquired him from the Twins in a waiver deal.

are to make the playoffs.  The Red Sox swept Oakland after getting pounded by the Angels, and Jason Bay has looked good so far in Boston.  After losing the first two games to the Angels on Thursday and Friday, the Yankees bounced back to split the four-game series over the weekend.  Xavier Nady is hitting .385 with three homers and 10 RBI in eight games since coming over from the Pirates and was named co-Player of the Week in the AL.

. .Jason Bay. Jay Bay, like a third grade rhyme, hitting about the same as Manny in a seven year younger package. Not sure who pulled the trigger on this deal. Theo, one presumes, and there’s hope in that regard. Stupid, he ain’t, and it may actually prove to be the reverse of the Oz situation. He may have opted to go with a witch (Bay) that he did know, to replace a witch (Manny) who was going to be a big question mark as he aged and got crankier about money.

on, and the inevitable headaches that come with Manny "being Manny."

Jason Bay is the remaining outfielder on the trade block for whom it might be worth giving up a top prospect.  Bay has the type of power the Mets could use from a corner outfielder, and his career .281 batting average is respectable.  His career average with RISP is about the same, but with two outs it drops to .267.  So he is not a particularly clutch hitter, and this season he has been even less so, hitting just .202 with RISP and .226 with RISP and two outs.  Does

hose roles.  With Xavier Nady off the board it is unlikely the Pirates will be keen on trading Jason Bay, and Casey Blake, who the Mets were reportedly targeting, has been traded to the Dodgers.  The Mets were rumored to have been in contact with the Padres regarding Brian Giles.  Aside from his .300 batting average and .400 on-base percentage, his relatively worthwhile $9 million contract for next year makes him an attractive option.   The other outfielder the Mets seem to be targeting at this point is Raul Ibanez, but his price tag is too high at the moment, and New York has indicated that they would not be willing to trade their two best prospects, outfielder Fernando Martinez and pitcher Jonathan Niese.
