Eli Manning

(I've also posted this on my blog at FanNation.com).

It's been an interesting NFL Sunday thus far, so I had the urge to get my two cents in on the day's events. First thing that comes to my mind, it's going right into this post...

Now that the Giants have managed to win the Super Bowl despite making
what I thought were some fatal offseason mistakes, such as keeping
coach Tom Coughlin and failing to upgrade the secondary enough (I love

I have to admit there was time during the 2007 New York Giants season that I thought Eli Manning was not going to be the Giants quarterback much longer.  After his horrendous performance against the Minnesota Vikings in week 14 when he threw 3 interceptions which were returned for touchdowns, the future for

n, the Giants just competely outplayed them.  They were the better team last night.  Once Eli Manning completed the pass to David Tyree, I knew destiny was on our side.

The Defense made Tom Brady look uncomfortable all night with 5 sacks.  And they held the most prolific offense in the NFL to only 14 points.  The MVP of the game could easily have been a member of the defense.

I have never claimed to be an expert when it comes to predicting outcomes of football games, although last year I nearly predicted the exact final score of the Super Bowl while hitting on seven of my nine prop bets. In his 4th season Eli Manning has led the New York Giants to the Super Bowl. It is too early to call Eli one of the greatest quarterbacks in Giants history, but he is well on his way. Here is a look at some of the greatest quarterbacks in New York Giants History.

This, spearheaded by a stepped-up passing game by the Giants and an Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress, 81-yard touchdown pass, late in the third quarter that made the game interesting (27-20, at that point, if memory serves). But the Patriots did (in this game re-creation) what the Patriots do on the actual playing field. They didn't over-play their hand. They did just what they needed to do to win and if the score got run up a bit, it's largely because the defensive efforts to stop them got  frustrated by idiosyncratic and unpredictable play-calling. Just when you think you know what they're going to do, they tend to do something else.
