           The other contender is Carlos Quentin, who was leading the AL with 36 homers and 100 RBI at the time he went down with a broken wrist and missed the final month of the season.  He still ended up leading the White Sox in home runs and RBI, and would have been a better bet for the MVP if he had stayed healthy, but Chicago was a team based on hitting the long ball and he wasn’t the only power force on the team.

tching from two unexpected sources in John Danks and Gavin Floyd have carried Chicago this far, and Carlos Quentin's breakout year has sparked the offense.  If Chicago's rotation continues to roll, and the home runs keep flowing (Chicago leads the majors in homers), they should outlast the less experienced Twins and win the division.

tight as can be.  The White Sox have won four straight, and lead the Twins by one game.  Carlos Quentin surprisingly seems to be the front-runner in the wide open AL MVP race, with his .296 batting average, 97 RBI and major league-leading 35 home runs.  Chicago has hit 184 homers, most in the majors.  After their current series with Seattle, the White Sox host the Rays over the weekend, while the Twins visit the Angels.

Manny Ramirez is starting in left field, instead of Carlos Quentin (who is younger, a better defender and having a season that's as good as, if not better, than Manny's). Josh Hamilton (with superior offensive numbers) is in center, over the better defender (Grady Sizemore, with only slightly inferior offensive numbers). Jeter’s the starter at short, in spite of being as poor a defender as ever, with Mike Young (better on both sides of the ball) on the bench. Would you take Kevin Youlikis at first over Justin Morneau? Perhaps, or perhaps not—but Terry Francona must, because The Fans Said So.
