So what do you think about our chances this year? Do you agree that the aquisition of Santana helps to give much needed relief/rest to an overworked bullpen last year. And, what are the odds that Sanchez can reproduce his pitching from 2006, post shoulder surgery? My prediction is that we will in fact will the NL title this year and although I would love to be completely optomistic, I will have to wait and see who our opponent is to see if we win the fall classic, or just come close. Carlos Beltran seems to think that the METS are the team to beat, but I'm not so sure that this is the start of his being a team leader. It just dosn't seem to be his personality, and if his season is as meadocre as last year, then he won't be feeling like leading. I still think that role has to fall to Wa

Hi;

I'm new to this, so please bear with me.  I am a transplanted New Yorker living in enemy Phillies territory.  I was previously in Red Sox terrotory which wasn't much better, but at least it was the American league, not the National.  I'd love to keep in touch with any NY sports fans, since the info and press here about NY sports is only limited to when they are playing Philly teams.  For now, I was wondering if anyone has any takes on the pending Santana acquisition for the Mets?  I just heard that the sticking point is the 6 years that Santana is requesting in the contract. Personally I think 6 years is way too long for any contract.  That's too much time for something to go wrong, injury or not.  I did not hear that the salary was a problem, but even that seems a bit too high.  My understanding is that Santana feels that he should get more than Zito got last year.  His numbers are good certainly, but where does the money train end?  Are we just going to wind up with another primadonna in NY (Yankees included in this comment)?  All in all though, I am psyched for what Santana could bring in terms of an ace to our pitching staff.  I think our bullpen performed poorly near the end because they were used too much.  We need guys to go at least 7 innings and a good solid 7, not starting to fall apart in the 5th.  I think Maine and Perez can actually do it, given the right circumstances and conditioning.   We know Pedro can.  El duque can if he stays healthy, which I know is a problem.   Anyway, pithcers and catchers report in what, 2 weeks.  We'll see how this all plays out soon.  Let me know what you think.
