NY Mets collapse was best thing that could have happened posted on 02/23/2008

While watching Tom Glavine implode in the first inning against the Marlins successfully completing the greatest regular season collapse in MLB history, I have to admit that as a lifelong Mets fan I was secretly happy.  The lovable team of '06 with their late inning comebacks and contagious enthusiasm, had turned into the Indians from "Major League 2."  They were countless instances of no hustle, no desire, and a general attitude of indifference.  I actually grew to very much dislike the Mets of '07.  Every Reyes boneheaded baserunning move, Delgado's swinging at balls in the dirt and slow grounders going past him down the line, and all of Beltran's "injuries" (not to mention the attrocious bullpen), got me so frustrated that I didn't want to see them in the playoffs.  I had enough of it.  Making the playoffs would have validated all of their idiocy, and would have forced me root for a team that I grew to disdain.
