Now that the Giants have managed to win the Super Bowl despite making
what I thought were some fatal offseason mistakes, such as keeping
coach Tom Coughlin and failing to upgrade the secondary enough (I love
Aaron Ross, but could not believe they didn't add anyone else), I will
give a quick rundown of what they need to do this offseason. I am
going to focus on the defense because there isn't as much room for
them to maneuver on offense, and because I like defense better.
The first crucial step is resigning Gibril Wilson. He's one of the top
two free agent safeties (the other being Ken Hamlin), knows the team,
the system, etc., and he has a cool first name. Enough said.
Resigning Kawika Mitchell would be good too, if it can be done for a

When the "Spygate" story first broke in September, I thought it was
one of the stupider, more overblown stories in a long time.
A disgruntled former employee (Jets coach Eric Mangini) accuses his
old boss (Patriots coach Bill Belichick) of cheating after the Pats
beat the Jets 100-0, as if he had actually just noticed some guy
standing on the Patriots' sideline with a camera, recording the Jets'
defensive signals. So it was obvious right from the beginning that not
only had the Pats been doing it for a while, but considering how
little effort they put into hiding it, most likely they weren't the
only guilty team in the league (a notion further supported by the memo
the NFL sent out reminding everyone how illegal it was).
